The 350Z was introduced in late 2002, the fifth in the line of Z cars originally introduced in 1970. The car is a two seat two wheel drive front engine normally aspirated sports coupe with unparalleled good looks which has won rave reviews the world over for its style, performance and build quality. As well as winning the prestigious Japanese Car of the Year award, the car won the Top Gear Magazine Car of the Year award, The Canadian Car of the Year award and came out top in Ten best cars under £30K in Road and Track Magazine. The engine, the VG35DE is superb smooth and efficient unit and the only engine to have figured in Wards 10 Best World Engines since it was first compiled in 19995. Driving the 350 immediately confirms that Nissan have set out from the start to create a great sports car with the emphasis firmly on performance rather than compromising with soft suspension, useless rear seats etc. The car transmits its power to the tarmac efficiently; corners superbly with almost no roll, steers precisely and the brakes are fantastic. The weight distribution is a near perfect Front 53%:Rear47% ensuring accurate steering response and good traction under acceleration. Finally the aerodynamicists have achieved a drag co-efficient of 0.3 enabling the car to maintain higher cruise speeds for a lower throttle opening therefore saving fuel. As youd expect from Nissan the car is loaded with high tech systems to give the car that vital edge. The Electronic Stability Program is an on board computer system thats software monitors the speed and steering angle of all four wheels. If the car starts to slip this computer cuts engine power and brakes the individual wheel to get things back under control. A Traction Control System prevents wheel spin under acceleration and a Limited Slip Differential sends power to the wheel with the most grip maximizing traction. The braking system also has some fantastic innovative systems to boost performance; The Electronic Brake Force Distribution allocates most braking force to the wheels with the most grip, while in an emergency the Nissan Brake Assist applies extra braking power. Finally the Anti Lock Braking System prevents wheel lock to enable the driver to retain steering control. Equipment levels on even the base 350Z are superb. The driver benefits from air conditioning with automatic climate control, CD player, a computer with average speed, average fuel consumption and range for fuel remaining, power windows, central locking, power assisted steering, UV cut tinted glass, drivers and passenger front air bag, external temperature indicator, height adjustable carbon cloth sports seats, folding electric mirrors and adjustable steering column.
